Lazarus Island Beach Instagram

During the Vesak Day weekend, my colleagues and I chartered a yacht to the Lazarus Island.  This is the second time we chartered a yacht to Lazarus.  The yacht experience wasn’t unique but visiting Lazarus Island again surely is quite thrilling.  It’s a year since my last visit and I am double surprised!  While there seems to be more private yacht, but the beach seems to be more gorgeous than what I can remember with its pristine clear, turquoise water!

French Faire Flower Dome Gardens by the Bay Lavender

Say “Bonjour”.  The display at Flower Field have transformed and we are now in France! From 12 May, embark on a botanical journey and take in the beauty of the new floral display at the Flower Dome.  In this display, there is more variety of flowers that is sure to bring even more delight.  Even though the display was still “In Progress”, I already feel I fall in love with the “French Faire” theme.  Just like how people fall in love in Paris.

Smack in the centre of the flower field and erected proudly is one tower that resemble the Effiel Tower in Paris.  Lo and Behold!  Now I can hardly differentiate if I am in Singapore or in Paris!  I absolutely adore the bed of different flowers with pleasing and vibrant colours.

French Faire Flower Dome Gardens by the Bay Cafe

Le Jardin Café within the Flower Field?  No, no!  It is still no eating and drinking within the Flower Dome (save for the diners at Pollen Restaurant!).  Since the last display, I was wondering who does all the carpentry in the display because they are becoming more real-life size.

Tulipmania 2014 Flower Dome Gardens by the Bay

Tulipmania is back again at Gardens by the Bay!  Expect 50,000 tulips from Holland being transported into the Flower Dome with the cityscape of Netherlands.  This time, not only are there the tulips, but a transformation of a “Little Netherlands” within the Flower Dome.  That just reminds me of Huis Ten Bosch where it is a mini-Holland Village in Japan.

Tulipmania 2014 Flower Dome Gardens by the Bay

Catch the last glimpse of Tulipmania at the Flower Dome by this Sunday, 4 May 2014 before the flower field transform into another interesting country theme.  The last I heard is France.  Remember that you heard it here first.

I was at the Tulipmania this morning and it had drones of guest visiting the Flower Dome.  But this year, the display was more spectacular, more magnificent and very well organised.  Despite the large crowd, I enjoyed walking around, taking pictures and admire the flowers in bloom.  Of recent display, this ought to be one of the better one in my humble opinion.

I quickly upload the pictures I have taken today at the Tulipmania display.  For those who have time this weekend, don’t miss the sequel for Tulipmania.  Otherwise, enjoy some of the photos depicting the tulips in its various state.  Enjoy!

Christmas Sugar Mountain Gardens by the Bay

Merry Christmas everyone!  Today I shall share with you the magical story of the love, hope and joy going on at the Christmas Sugar Mountain at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay.

Christmas Tree Flower Dome Gardens by the Bay

Arriving at the Flower Dome, you will be greeted by a giant tree decorated with poinsettia.  Their characteristic red and bright leaves are often mistaken as petals of flowers but in fact they are actually modified leaves.  An unusual Christmas tree as it is all dressed in red, many visitors stood beside this unique tree and have their picture taken.

Another iconic feature of Christmas is reindeers which is not lacking at the Christmas display.  These reindeers made of cane material are looks very lively.  What is missing though is a sleigh and father santa!

Do you like these trees made with bromeliads? If you frequent the Gardens by the Bay enough, you should be able to recognised that these bromeliads are used to cover the vertical supertree structures.  At this season, they are used to be made into Christmas like trees.  How innovative the horticulturist and landscape artists at Gardens by the Bay are!  Many of them stood proudly at the Flower Field adding a lot of festive cheer.

Some addition of greens to the festive display bring more colour and delight.  It also breaks away from the monotony of the red and purple hues which are very prominent at the display.  The three of them stood there like the three musketeers screaming for attention.  I hope visitors remember to snap pictures of them, and not only those that are donned with stars.

When I stepped into the flower field and immediately thought I was transported into the Cloud Forest instead and what stood in front of me is a magnificent display of a man-made mountain, which is the key highlight of the Christmas display this year.  The display is designed by famous landscape artist Mr.Kazuyuki Ishihara from Japan.  Probably the first collaboration the Gardens have for an external landscapist to design the colour.   I am awestruck by the fascinating displaying with a story to boot!  And I am happy to hear it directly from Mr Ishihara.

Mr Ishihara is a very energetic, fun and animated person.  In fact I would say I like his flamboyant sense of fashion.  And he shared with the audience his creation of the Christmas Sugar Mountain.  When I first know of the Christmas Sugar Mountain, I had thought the Gardens has built a giant gingerbread house in the flower field, so witnessing what was in front of me and listening to the interesting story of Ananas & Berry really changed my perception quickly.

Ananas & Berry at Christmas Sugar Mountain, Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay Ananas and Berry

Ananas and Berry, the pineapple boy and strawberry girl met at a magical mountain.  They wandered through the mountain carefreely and soon enough fell in love with one another.  Being very much in love, they decided to get married at their newfound paradise.  So Ananas built a little house for themselves  (The house is in the background of the picture, I should have gotten a better picture!) to provide for a cosy shelter and love nest.

One day, Ananas the pineapple boy suggested to use his car to bring her wife Berry the strawberry girl on a honeymoon.  They wandered further into the mountain and was joyous when they realised that there are so many fruits and vegetables growing around the mountain area.  With the abundance of food to provide for their needs, they decided to call the magical mountain their home and live happily ever after.

Along with the landscape display, the mountain garden also features many different fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, chilli, eggplant, lady fingers, red peppers, pineapple and strawberry.  There are also different kind of lettuce all around the flower field.  I was resisting very hard not to pluck and bite into them.

The clever display at the flower field designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara stems from his belief in the power of food to bridge the disparities in society.  In the same spirit during this Christmas festive season of giving, the display also gently reminded me of how we should be caring and giving to the ones we love.  This enchanting display will certainly promise to delight both the old and young, and prove particularly educational for the young ones on the different vegetations they will see at the flower field.

The Christmas Sugar Mountain will continued to be featured in the flower field till 05 January 2014 for a facelift for the next Spring Display, probably a Chinese New Year theme.  I’m so excited to come back to the Flower Dome again.

I really missed blogging for a long time.  It has been a crazy two months while I was away.  First was my annual In-Camp Training (aka Reservist), followed by my Australia trip which lasted more than 2 week (which I will provide some highlight in this post).  Following my Australia trip, it was a whirlwind of work and a two weeks of training at work.  Then I went to a beautiful beach resort in Batam (that shall be another post) for another short vacation.  By the time I was ready for some serious blogging, my PC protested my absence and decided to fail on me.  So just over the weekend, I rushed to Sitex 2013 and bought myself a new laptop. So yay, I am finally blogging again!

First, I would share some interesting highlights of my trip to Australia.  It is amazing and I love the country so much that I feel like migrating there.  Anyway, here are some nice and cool pictures of the recent trip and if you enjoy, do bookmark my site and come back for more!

BRISBANE

Succulent Chicken at Brisbane Summit Restaurant

First thing first in the food blog.  My very first meal after touching down at Brisbane was at the Summit Restaurant, at the Summit of Mount Coot-tha.  It offers the Brisbane lookout point which is a breathtaking view of the Brisbane city.  I am happy to report that the Summit Restaurant not only has a great view, it serves really good food.  No wonders it has won many accolades under its sleeves.  Check back my blog for a full review!

GOLD COAST

Window View of Hotel at Gold CoastView from Hotel

Australia is a beautiful country, with a lot of great scenery and trees.  Actually one thing that really caught my attention is the birds being so close to humans.  The sun in Australia is unsually scorching hot.  One can easily get sun burn just staying outside the building.  Nevertheless, I love how the sky is always so blue.

Gold Coast Sun Rise Surfers Paradise

Sunrise at Surfer’s Paradise

I have been to quite a number of beaches, but the waves at Surfer’s Paradise really shook me up.  I always feel intimidated by the strong waves and current of the sea.  The long stretch of beach is mesmerising and was really happy because this is the first time that I actually went to a beach in an “ang moh” country!

SYDNEY

Koala AustraliaKoala at Zoo

Koala sleeps probably 80% of the time and they look so cute and cuddly just like a baby.  The reason why their energy is so low because they chew on the eucalyptus leaves which are low in protein.

Sydney Opera HouseSydney Opera House

I can’t helped but think a lot about the Singapore’s Esplanade when I saw the Sydney Opera House.  Australia beaches are know for Shark Attacks.  Doesn’t the structure looks like the fins from Sharks?  I have more interesting stories to tell about the Sydney Opera House!

MELBOURNE

Coffee Culture at MelbourneHave a Cuppa!

Melbourne is one of the cities with a rich coffee culture.  It is easy to get to a nice café and have a cup of good coffee.  Most of them are serious about making a good cup of coffee, and upkeeping the high standards of the coffee culture in Melbourne.

The Twelve ApostlesThe Twelve Apostles

One of the highlight of the Melbourne trip is going on The Great Ocean Drive.  The picture above which shows the famous Twelve apostles which is one of the key attraction of the Great Ocean Drive.

For my two weeks trip, I have 18GB of photos taken so the above is just a teaser post of what is to come.  Do check back my blog on the Australia Travel Edition 2013.  I hope I am able to provide my readers with some insights of The Great Down Under and some interesting facts about Australia that I only got to know through the trip.
