Dutch Colony Coffee Co Stall

The Dutch Colony Coffee Co. is a gem of a find located within PasarBella, a “farmer’s market” at The Grandstand, Turf City. I first got to know about PasarBella after seeing the pictures at my BFF blog last year and when I got in, I was quite captivated by the energy and atmosphere of the place.  Does this sort of place exists in Singapore?  I felt being transported back to Australia which I just recently visited where their markets all look like this.  Kinda cool isn’t it?

Dutch Colony Coffee Co In

There were some grouses when it first opened that there are limited seats available at Dutch Colony Coffee.  However, when I visited, there seems to be plenty of space going around.  The café is crowded, for a good reason of course, because they offer good cup of coffee – be it after dining at the various stalls at PasarBella, or even at the restaurants at The Grandstand.  It is really a nice atmosphere akin to the many markets I have been to in Melbourne where there are one or two cafes within the marketplace.

Dutch Colony Coffee Co Latte

Sometimes the name of the café is really a misnomer.  Apparently Dutch Colony Coffee is owned by Indonesians so nothing quite the sort of suggestion on the origins of the beans.  I had the latte which was of a reasonably good standard.  Great silky milk to the last drop enhancing the aroma of the coffee.  The coffee is strong with a bitter after taste, just the kind that I like.

The Dutch Colony Coffee is a nice pit stop for those who are browsing around PasarBella.  It is also an ideal place for a post dinner coffee. This charming place with dim lights, a rustic environment to boot and nice aroma of the coffee beans permeating the surrounds of the café, certainly the café I would go back to if I am at Turf City again.

Indonesia was Dutch colonialised for 3.5 centuries. That probably explains the name. 🙂

Well, that could have been the reason. 🙂

The Dutch were also one of the pioneer coffee traders globally. :)) Thanks for dropping by Gurkhason!
