Thye Moh Chan Pineapple Tarts

By now, many of my readers will know I am a big fan of Thye Moh Chan, a traditional teochew pastry shop with a modernised look.  For some reason, I always have a special connection with Thye Moh Chan because not only does it offers many of my childhood favourites, but I also love the way how its treats are packaged so that it is still appealing to the consumers of today.  The box used to package the pineapple pastries are the same used for the mooncakes, but Thye Moh Chan give a special touch by including in its package a festive charm, making it a very elegant gifts for friends and relatives.

To cater to the more discerning taste of today’s consumers who are tired of the same old pineapple tarts, Thye Moh Chan created two new flavours:  Walnut Pineapple Pastry and Longan Pineapple Pastry.  I found the longan pineapple pastry to be very unique, as every bite is full of the dried longan flavour, as if you are drinking the red date longan tea.  I reckon it will be perfect to have this with the Tie Guan Yin tea.  The walnut version has a lot of walnut bits that are soft and crunchy at the same time.

For those who don’t like the outer crust to be too buttery, this will make a good choice.  The pineapple is also of the right sweetness and does not have the “overkill” taste like a lot of pineapple tarts out there.  Each individually wrapped pineapple pastry is generous with the pineapple fillings and a soft crumbly shell.
