Chong Qing Chicken Pot Bugis Food Junction

With the rise of the foreign population, we are blessed with the introduction of their local cuisine into the country and further adds to the diversity of variety we have here.  No longer do we need to dine in expensive restaurant to have a taste of Chong Qing, now you can enjoy a good Chong Qing Chicken Pot at affordable prices in a food court.  How cool is that?   Chong Qing cuisine has a characteristics of being spicy and numbing to the tongue.  There has been a proliferation of fragrant hot pot, but this Chicken Pot is something extra with that extra oomph!  The menu here has origins that was created by legendary “Ji Gong” or crazy monk and hails from the city of Chong Qing that is widely regarded as having the best cuisines in China.

Joyden Seafood Crab and Vermicelli Braised with Ginger and Spring Onion

Just last week, I was invited to the newly renovated Joyden Seafood (previously known as West Coast Seafood) which is located at West Coast Recreational Centre.  Although with a short ten years of history, the restaurant has many signature favourites that has definitely left a deep impression on me.  One interesting thing to note is that the experienced team of chefs that has been instrumental to the growth of the restaurant have been with the restaurant since its popularity ten years ago.  Unlike most restaurants where there is a Executive Chef, each of their chef have their individual speciality.  That is probably why each and every dish is very well executed.  This is probably one of the best Chinese meal I have in recent times.

Dian Xiao Er Signature Herbal Roast Duck

One of our local favourite restaurant Dian Xiao Er has partnered with the Health Promotion Board to provide healthier dishes to fit the need of higher demand for healthier options.  Dian Xiao Er is also amongst the pioneer to switch over to rice bran oil; with multiple benefits such as high in anti-oxidants, Vitamin E and cholesterol-inhibiting compounds such as phytosterol. You would think that healthier option would means less tasting.  This certainly is a myth especially after sampling their many dishes which are still as yummy as it is before.  For instance, their signature Herbal Roast Duck; with either Angelica Herb, Ten Wonder or Wild Ginseng sauce; taste just as good as before.  Now healthier options came in same great taste and is a good news for all.

Beijing No 1 Marina Bay Sands

Beijing No. 1. How many have actually heard of this Chinese restaurant?  I did not until I went to Marina Bay Sands with 365days2play and her hubby.  We were looking for some dinner alternative without burning our wallet, so since her hubby is entitled to half-price dining privilege at this restaurant, so despite it looking real up market, and located along the celebrity chef row at The Shoppes @ Marina Bay Sands, we ventured in.  But since that dining experience, I was shrouded with mystery on why this particular Chinese restaurant doesn’t seem to attract a good patronage even though we may be expecting that a lot of PRC Chinese high rollers at the casino may patronize here with its “ching chong” oriental decor that’s prominently red that’s the lucky color for Chinese .  But on the day of our dinner, the tables weren’t quite occupied too.  This overly stated restaurant surpisingly served quite humbled dishes. Just like the above pan fried dumplings, but with a difference of course.

Diamond Restaurant Gan Xiang Crab

The word “Diamond” and “Kitchen” just doesn’t sound quite together.  But tucked at the residential condominium of Laguna Park along Marine Parade is a Diamond Kitchen.  Within few months of opening, it has received a large fan fare and many throne the place in anticipation of what the Diamond Kitchen whips up.   Helmed by two cousins, Josh Chou, 30, and Lambert Chen, 27, these two young entrepreneurs worked closely with Chef Kevin Lau who has more than 25 years of experience, and jointly create some of these signature dishes that I had sampled.
