espressoLAB latte art

Recently I have been embarking on a café adventure.  Whenever I feel I can sneak in some time for coffee, I will use the iPhone apps such as Four Square or Yelp* to help me locate for cafes.  More specifically the thirdwave coffee joints, or those with nice latte art.  I cross reference to Instagram to make sure Instagrammers have uploaded nice latte art photos of the coffee they had.

espressolab is located at Bali Lane, a 5-8 minutes walk from Bugis train station.  Bali Lane is located at the fringe of the Arab Street district, a prominent area for the Muslim community.  Even so, you find many “western” cafés in the area.  So far my favourite is Artistry, and Symmetry is also located in the precinct of Kampung Glam.

espressolab is more than a café, their primary aim is on coffee education through professional training and certification courses.  Their café is their retail effort to promote speciality coffee to the mass market.  To ensure that every cup of coffee that is made by their barista is of a good quality, the barista have to undergo 40 hours on coffee training from farming, beans making processes such as sorting, grading, roasting and brewing preparation.  They also have to understand different coffee drinking cultures, tasting and calibration etc.

espressoLAB seats

espressolab is a small quaint café that sits about 30.  They have some nice cushion sofa seats and for those who like to relax and sit back while having their coffee.  This cosy café is an ideal place to have a coffee while chatting with their barista.

The café opened since July 2012 but many of its furniture already look quite weathered.  But something do come better with age.  I like how colourful and cheery the café is and most importantly the warm hospitality of the barista.

espressoLAB latteLatte ($5)

The latte I had with a nice latte art.  This espressolab blend is made up of the Brazilian Santos, Columbia Supremo, Guatemala Antigua and Aceh Ratawali.  It gives a citrus and chocolatey after taste.  I was happy to be able to enjoy this good cup of latte just as I was craving for one.
