Singapore Post 2014 Zodiac Horse IssueZodiac Horse 2014 Issue

The very first stamp issue by Singapore Post for 2014 is the zodiac horse stamp issue which has invited a lot of criticism for its design.  Some say that it is too plump to look like a horse; I have a friend that even say it can be recycled to be used in the year of the pig!  The neighing horse also seems to suggest that it looks like a roaster!  But whatever it is, I just hope that at the end of the year, everyone will just be as prosperous looking as the horse.  Afterall, they say that it is a year of equity investing.  What says you?

Singapore Post Zodiac Horse 2014  Cover for Presentation Pack

Not many people are aware of my new hobby of collecting stamps.  I started with collecting the Presentation Pack which are really affordable; usually less than $5; but most importantly they illustrate a unique theme in the particular stamp issues.  Singapore stamp issues are interesting as they revolve around festivities, to commemorate certain anniversaries, features certain subjects revolving around us such as nature, animals, buildings, and depicts our cultures and traditions.  Singapore Post releases new stamp issues several times a year.  I gained a lot of knowledge of Singapore through the stamp collections and love how it can connects me to the past, present and future.  Sometimes there are joint stamp issues with other countries and we get to learn and understand a little about the country and the relevance to that particular stamp issue.

The stamps depicts a cheerful and energetic horse. They are released in denominations of 1st Local, 65¢ and $1.10.

Another prized collectible is the limited edition Collector’s Sheet that uses offset lithography with high reflective index transparent hologram with morphing effect.  Frankly speaking that really sounded a mouthful to me and being an amateur, there are many technical terms that I have to learn that will allow me to appreciate the stamps better.

Each presentation pack will contain information pertaining the issue.  They are usually interesting, informative and provide nuggets of titbits that will arouse my further interest on the subject.  While the usage of stamp has really come to ail with the use of  email and other technology, however it really is something that we should preserve as they can be passive tools that can be used as timeless piece to educate our future generations.
