Whenever people ask me, what kind of cuisine or food do I like, I found this to be one the hardest question to answer. I do not have a definitive answer because I love all kind of food. I also can’t really say I enjoy meat more than vegetables because they are both different and they satisfy me in different ways. I like my diet to be balanced, but whenever I feel like a “lion”, one of the good way is to find a Korean BBQ restaurant where I can have all the meat to my heart’s content.
When a Joycelyn, a new friend I met in a recent blogger event told me that there is a Korean BBQ buffet at Tampines One, I was delighted. So I headed out with my BFF to try out the Korea BBQ. Look at the pictures, this is meat galore. Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ is located within the “new” Tampines 1. In fact it has been operating in the mall for almost a year, but somehow because of its location I have forgotten about its existence. So I was happy to be acquainted with it again.
Other than the wide variety of meat, included in the buffet is alot of cooked dishes. Here are just some of the items I picked up. Pictured is the sweet potato (those are not brinjal/eggplant) coated with sugar syrup and deep fried, a very special way to cook resulted in a sweet, crispy and crunchy exterior. There is also the korean stir fried rice cakes and pork jelly. They also have the vegetable pancake that is cut to manageable small pieces. They have a wide variety of cooked dishes and they all tasted so good, but I have to go easy with it otherwise there will be no space left for the meat.
Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ served both lunch and dinner buffet, with lunch at a cheaper price tag and dinner boasting a wider variety. Look at these pretty sushi! They are amongst the special addition in the dinner together with the sweet potatoes, rice cake and pork jelly. They also have three additional meat (beef rib eye, beef short plate and beef short-rib cut).
Okay, this has to be one of the very special dish. I would even say quite a signature dish that they provided in the buffet. These are Pork Jelly Cubes which I am really surprised to find it. Basically they are pork leg (pig’s trotters) cooked in jelly. It tasted like braised pork cooked to tenderness and the pig skin will just melt in your mouth together with the soft jelly. I can’t exactly place this as uniquely Korea dish because I am pretty sure Chinese restaurants will serve that. But this is one of the better ones that I have tried and very few places have these pork jelly cubes. I would come back to Ssikken Korean Grill BBQ just for this!
Bacon slow grilled to crispiness
One of the plus points for the restaurant is that they provided very good service. After cooking some of the marinated meat, the grill tends to be very charcoal black due to the marinate. The service staff will come and check and replace the grill for us so that we don’t have to scrape off all the black charred grill, and not having to risk “poisoning” ourselves with the digestions of the black charred particles.
This is one very satisfying carnivorous meal which i enjoy a lot. Each buffet comes with a bottled distilled water included in the price. Although they don’t serve ice-water, however if you feel thirsty, you can always refresh yourself with the watermelon that is included in the buffet price. I’m definitely coming back for lunch the next time because it is really cheap.
Lunch is at $14.90++ while dinner is at $24.90++.
